As part of Walk to School Mrs Brooks challenged the School to walk 500 miles. This was how we achieved it.
On Monday 17th May the whole school made a walking line which was lead by the Reggie the Runner Bean Super Sport Hero. Together we walked 10 times around both playgrounds.
At the end of this we had reached the first milestone of 200 miles.
This left each class the target of another 43 miles. We clocked up the miles by walking/scooting/cycling to school and back. To help us calculate their distance easily we made a zoned map of Weston. We all recorded which zone we had travelled from and the miles were added to our class totals. By the end of the week we were all amazed at how many miles we had covered. Even those who live a short distance from school were surprised at far they had walked in just one week.
For children who are not able to walk it was suggested they could be dropped off in a closer zone and walk from there. Many did this and helped their class reach a much higher target than expected.
At the end of the week the children who had contributed the most to this challenge were presented with prizes. As a school we not only completed the challenge but we are pleased to announce together we walked 1016miles.
It was great fun to be outside in the sunshine getting fit with all my friends.
I loved meeting Reggie he made the walk really fun, although I did get a little tired.
