Network 17 is a small group of children who have overseen and organised different accomplishments over the years.
It all began when they teamed up with the PTA Friends, and installed a kitchen for the pupils to use.
They have since organised a visiting artist to decorate our corridor, created many pieces of mosaic art, installed a climbing wall and laid some artificial turf in both our front and back playground.
The children have project managed all these tasks right from the planning stage where they had to take into consideration the children’s needs and requirements such as: for the kitchen, different height worktops, cooking hobs, cooker height and storage units. For the climbing wall, how many routes would best fit the space, how high should the construction be and which wall would be the best location.
The committee also had to research, plan and budget their spending. They held finance meetings with Mr Wilson and submitted bids for funding. All successful offers were then matched by Network 17. They held cake sales and discos to help raise the money.
Due to their success we now have a fully functional kitchen for the whole school to use. Over the terms Year 5 have taken part in ‘Lets Get Cooking’ projects and have formed an after school club. We have used our new kitchen to produce many excellent dishes. We have also run parent and child cookery workshops which have proven very successful.
Network 17 have also brightened up our playtime with the exciting climbing wall which is always popular with both infants and juniors. Many children flock to out new grass areas as they relax with their friends. We all think these are valuable assets to our school.
It is now time for another inspiring project and we all can't wait to get involved. Watch this space!
I think our new kitchen is fantastic. It is exciting to use new ingredients and taste different flavours.
It is really nice to have somewhere beautiful were we can learn. Our school looks amazing!
